Okay, what I'm reading: 1. I started a re-read of New Spring a few days ago. Why? Because they finally have a relatively-firm release date for the last Wheel of Time book, and I think I need to re-read the whole series given how long it's been since Knife of Dreams. I've forgotten more of Wheel of Time than I remember. 2. The third book of Twelve Kingdoms should be arriving at my house either tomorrow or Friday. This is easily my favorite current fantasy series... the anime is amazing; the novels are better. If I read the synopsis of this novel correctly, it covers what was my favorite chunk of the anime series. That would be awesome. 3. Just finished reading through the book for the Anima RPG. It's... neat. It seems like a game that fills the niche that Exalted tried to, given that Exalted has wound up as a completely different game with completely different strengths than the designers intended. I'm looking forward to getting a chance to run it... someday.

Touche!
1. William Marshall: The Flower of Chivalry by Georges Duby. A brilliantly written account of the life of Sir William Marshall by one of the most respected medievalists ever. For some reference, William Marshall was the regent of Henry III and the epitome of the high medieval knight.
2. The Second Sons Trilogy by Jennifer Fallon. A decent enough series by an author who seems to wish she was George R. R. Martin. Filled with flawed heroes, flawed villains, and... hm... just about flawed everyone. Unfortunately, there are only like two characters that are likeable 100% of the time and one of them doesn't doesn't survive to the second book. A decent enough placeholder until Martin finally finishes his next book.

Yeah... the big fantasy series of this decade seem to be going really slowly. I mean, Wheel of Time has an excuse, but Ice and Fire's books are just coming out at a snail's pace.
Which is part of why I'm glad Twelve Kingdoms is so good... a book a year is a nice thing to have. Of course, it was better when I was getting a Twelve Kingdoms book and a Harry Potter book every year....

Actually, it took me awhile to remember, but if you haven't read them, I am rather partial to the Farseer Trilogy, and its subsequent spin offs. And if you are looking for something with a bit more of a modern setting, I would recommend Nightwatch. All I can say about that one is that crazy Russians write interesting stories.

Good Omens by Terry Pratchet and Neil Gaiman is kinda awesome. End of days + British humor = sweet.

Also, its a bit weird, but I quite liked the Tears of Artamon series is fun. Weird early modern type setting that mixes vampires, angels, demons, technology, and politics. It makes sense in the books at least.
