Movie Review! X-Men Origins: WolverineOverall, I was really impressed. They managed to take what looked like a relatively low budget and make a film that both had decent special effects and dialogue. Standing Ovation - Wade Wilson: Ryan Reynolds as smack-talking mercenary Wade Wilson was great. Actor got the character down perfect. Dialogue was fitting. Perfect. Rotten Tomato - Deadpool: They completely messed up Wade Wilson's crazy, fourth-wall shattering alter-ego, Deadpool. Origin story? Completely wrong. Powers? Well, they got part of it right, but overall it was a mess. Personality? Fail. I won't give any specific details so as not to spoil the film for anyone else. Standing Ovation - Gambit: They got his personality down pat. They got his Cajun accent. The actor even looked right. On that note, they don't make the mistake that the comics and cartoon made. . . namely, the scenes in New Orleans weren't shot in a backwater swamp town. Instead, we got Bourbon street. WTF? Moment - Agent Zero: Okay, you're probably only going to get this if you're a big comic book nerd, which I'm not. I had to wikipedia this one to figure it out. They didn't get Agent Zero's power right at all. www.marvel.com/universe/Agent_ZeroAnd, fin.

I just read the Agent Zero thing, and yeah. . The Agent Zero in the movie was total fail. He was even asian. Agent Zero wasn't asian.
But I got Gambit! <3 I am a very happy fan girl! I would squeal right now if I wasn't so darn tired.

I do have to give the X-Men franchise this though: they have actor retention. The same people have played Wolverine, Sabertooth, Striker, Cyclops, and Xavier in all the movies. The new Batman's only had two films thus far, and they've already switched out Rachel Dawes. . . though admitedly, that role won't be an issue in the next film.

It'll take a lot for them to make up for X-Men 3.

The five minutes of Ryan Reynolds playing Wade Wilson and Gambit being cajun made up for X-Men 3, in my book. . . though now they need to make up for butchering Deadpool.

*nods* Definitely need to make up for Deadpool, but I will never forgive them for butchering Rogue. And that was in all three movies.
But I am happy with Wade Wilson and Gambit. <3 And Wolvervine of course. Hugh Jackman does an excellant job. So does the guy who plays Sabertooth.

My only problem with this assessment? The budget for this film was big. Like, huge, and it still looks like a low-budget film. Someone did not spend wisely.

They made it work. I admit, my assessment was based on what it looked like, not any research into the film's actual budget. My one real complaint about the film is still the butchering of Deadpool.
